Santa Clara will hosts Bronco Alumni Day on Saturday with a BBQ at 11 am for former alums at Alumni Park (to the left of the Leavey Center).  There will be a post-game meet and great with current team.   Bring your former teammates with you and contact Bronco assistant Matt Lyles for more information (mlyles@scu.edu).

Note: Women's Volleyball Breast Cancer Awareness Match this Saturday

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Santa Clara Women's Volleyball Team will host a PINK theme match this Saturday against BYU. It is meant to spread Breast Cancer Awareness and inspire fans to become more involved in the fight against the disease. In addition to pink decor, there will be pink foam fingers handed out to the first 50 fans. Please join us for this event and assist us in spreading the word.

Santa Clara hosts its last non-conference match of the year on Tues., Oct. 16 when it hosts Sac State at 6 pm at the Leavey Center.  Santa Clara is 14-7 and 4-3 in the WCC.  Sac State is 7-12 and 3-7 in the Big Sky Conference this year.  No. 16 BYU will play at Santa Clara at 1 pm on Sat., Oct. 20 after playing at Saint Mary's Thursday night.

After playing four straight West Coast Conference road matches, Santa Clara is looking forward to returning to the Leavey Center.  "It will be good to play at home on Tuesday," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "We look forward to playing in front of our home crowd twice this week and get back on track.

Santa Clara fell 3-0 at LMU on Oct. 11 before falling 3-2 in a very close match at No. 24 Pepperdine on Oct. 13.  While Santa Clara dropped both matches last weekend, there were some bright signs.  Wallace continued to praise the play of Taylor Milton, who leads the team with 2.88 kpg.  "She is really developing into a well-rounded and explosive player for us," said Wallace.

Wallace also praised Kayla Lommori as someone who continues to bring great energy and fight to the court.  "She is bringing an aggressive energy that is good for the team to follow," said Wallace.

The group continues to learn how hard they have to compete every day in practice; and every night in WCC matches.  "They know these matches are going to be very close. It will take an improvement of one or two percent to change the outcome of the matches," said Wallace.

Wallace likes what he is setting of the setters, Alyssa Anderson and Chelsea Heier, especially at the service line.  "They are improving defensively every set," said Wallace. 

The Broncos continue to be paced by junior middle blocker Megan Anders, who is hitting a team-leading .379.  Anders is second on the team with 2.73 kpg and leads the team with 0.93 bpg.  Katherine Douglas and Lommori are third on the team with 2.04 kpg each.  Douglas also adds 2.44 dpg.  Katy Schatzman leads the team with 3.67 dpg and Heier (0.34 sapg), Anderson (0.33 sapg) and Douglas (0.32 sapg) are 1-2-3, respectively, in service aces.
