Volleyball Hosts Top Two League Teams This Weekend

The Bronco volleyball team returns home this weekend to host the top two teams in the West Coast Conference.  Santa Clara hosts No. 8 San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 7 at 6 pm.  No. 21 BYU comes to the Leavey Center on Sat., Nov. 9 at 1 pm.  The BYU match will be televised nationally on The.Wtv channel online.  Click here to watch the BYU match.

Entering the week, BYU is in first place of the West Coast Conference with a 12-1 league record and an overall record of 19-4.  San Diego, winners of its last 10 matches in a row, is in second place with an 11-2 record in league play and a 19-3 record overall.  

The Broncos are 8-13 and 3-9 in league play entering the weekend.  Santa Clara split last weekend, losing 3-0 at Gonzaga without an ill Sabrina Clayton. 

Clayton came back swinging and ready at Portland on Saturday and helped the Broncos win 3-1.  Individually, SCU had four score double-digit kills.  Haley Cameron had 13 kills, hitting .435.  Megan AndersNikki Hess and Sabrina Clayton all scored 12 kills each with Anders hitting .524. 

The Broncos are led by offensively by Anders and Cameron.  Anders leads the team in hitting (.305) and kills per game (2.99) and is second on the team with 0.85 bpg.  Cameron is second in hitting at .301 and leads the team with .95 bpg.  Taylor Milton is fourth on the team with 2.59 kpg and third with 2.41 dpg. 

Hess is second on the team with 2.84 kpg and Clayton is third with 2.83 kpg. Hess leads the team with .36 sapg.

Senior Alyssa Anderson paces the team with 10.11 apg and is second on the team with 2.49 dpg.  Danielle Rottman scores 2.79 dpg.

San Diego is led by senior Chloe Ferrari, who was named the WCC Player of the Month for the second straight month earlier this week.  She is hitting .452 with 3.0 kpg.

BYU is led by Alexa Gray (3.70 kpg, .304), Tambre Haddock (3.43 kpg), Kathryn LeCheminant (1.99 kpg, 1.27 bpg) and Whitney Young (1.62 bpg).  Falling 3-2 at Saint Mary's on Oct. 26, the Cougars have won 15 of their last 16 games, including 12 of 13 in league play.

Moving forward, Santa Clara plays at Saint Mary's on Nov. 14 at 7 pm and then at Pacific on Nov. 16 at 1 pm.
