With senior All-WCC middle blocker Haley Cameron head-lining the First Team honorees list for the Broncos, the West Coast Conference has announced the 2013 WCC Volleyball All-Academic Team. Katherine Douglas and Katy Schatzman were also named to the Honorable Mention All-Academic Team.

"It's good to see our team being recognized for their academics," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "All three work really hard in the classroom and it's great to see them rewarded for their dedication.  Our team traditionally has done really well in the classroom.  When recruiting we look for girls who want a high level academic setting as well as playing a high level of volleyball.  We make our strong academics at Santa Clara a real emphasis."

Cameron was named to the WCC All-Academic First Team with a 3.63 grade point average in Liberal Studies.  Cameron was also honored by the WCC coaches as an Honorable Mention selection at middle blocker.  Cameron played in 59 career matches for the Broncos after transferring to Santa Clara after playing her first two years at University of Texas.  She collected 474 kills, 31 block solos and 183 block assists for 214 total blocks in her two years at SCU.  This season Cameron averaged 2.29 kpg and .99 blocks per game, playing in 106 sets with four service aces.  Cameron collected double-digit kills in 15 matches and her hitting percentage of .318 was second-best on the Bronco team.

It was Douglas' second year as an Honorable Mention selection as part of the WCC All-Academic Team.  Douglas, who graduated with a 3.25 GPA in Marketing in June, 2013, is in her first quarter of working on her MBA.  Douglas  played in 111 career matches for the Broncos, including redshirting her sophomore year due to injury (2010).  She has collected 829 kills, 874 digs and 73 service aces in her time at Santa Clara.

Schatzman carries a 3.4 GPA as a Business major.  This season she collected 2.22 dpg and .61 apg.  She also served up six aces, playing in 41 sets.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
