SAN MATEO, Calif. — Three Santa Clara volleyball student-athletes have been recognized as part of the Spring 2021 All-West Coast Conference honors. Julia Sangiacomo was named First Team All-WCC, Michelle Shaffer and Sophia Tulino earned honorable mention nods and Tulino also landed a spot on the all-freshman team, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Sangiacomo led Santa Clara and was top three among WCC student-athletes in kills/set (4.20, 38th NCAA), total kills (269, 65th NCAA), points/set (4.77, 36th NCAA) and total points (305, 64th NCAA). The sophomore outside hitter racked up 10 or more kills in the first 13 matches of the season and 16 of 18 matches overall in addition to posting four double-doubles. Her 143 digs and 21 aces were both second-most on the team.

Sangiacomo now has three all-conference awards after being named Second Team All-WCC and to the all-freshman team in 2019.

Shaffer led the Broncos with 395 assists (6.27/set) while sharing setting duties with Liliana Light. The junior setter/opposite ranked second on the team with 38 total blocks and third with 122 digs. She posted the WCC's only triple-double of the year with a 32-assist, 12-dig, 11-kill stat line in a five-set win at Gonzaga on March 12 and was one of only 22 student-athletes in the NCAA to have a triple-double this season.

Shaffer also earned her third conference award to go along with a WCC All-Freshman team selection in 2018 and Honorable Mention All-WCC honors in 2019.

Tulino ranked second in the conference overall and first among freshmen with 27 aces (64th NCAA) and 0.42 aces/set (70th NCAA); she helped the Broncos to a conference-best 1.75 aces/set mark. She ranked seventh in the conference and second among freshmen in points/set (4.10) and total points (262.5) while finishing at eighth in total kills (225, third WCC frosh) and ninth in kills/set (3.52, 4th WCC frosh). The outside hitter amassed 11 or more kills in each of the team's first 10 matches and in 15 of 18 contests overall.
