Feb. 20, 2008

Santa Clara, Calif.- Playing at home for the last time all year, Santa Clara's women's water polo team put on a show, dominating UC Santa Cruz 14-5. The 14 goals scored were the most for the Broncos this year.

"This was definitely a breakout for us offensively," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "It was nice to do this against a good Santa Cruz team too."

The Broncos led just 6-4 after the first half, but poured it on offensively and defensively in the second half, outscoring the Banana Slugs 8-1.

"We really broke it open in the second half," said Wilbur. "And we clamped down defensively as well."

Amy Lamb had a monster game, notching a hat trick along with four assists, a steal and two kickouts drawn. Christie Miller also filled up the stat sheet with three goals, an assist, two steals, and a kickout drawn.

Jenny Knutson and Claire Linney both had two goals for Santa Clara. Maria Jarrell, Emily Bonk, Elizabeth Perry, and Brianna Anderson all scored one goal apiece. Anderson also had three assists and two steals for the Broncos.

Randahl Capurro continues to rack up double digit blocks, with 11, while also notching a steal. Wren White came in halfway through the fourth quarter and blocked two shots.

"It was a fun home game and our last official one of the year aside from our alumni game," said Wilbur. "I'm glad the team was able to play well in it."

The Alumni game will be this Saturday, Feb. 23 at Malley Pool at noon.
