Broncos Split Again on Last Day of Aggies Shootout

April 6, 2008

DAVIS, Calif. - On the final day of the 2008 Aggies Shootout at UC Davis, the Santa Clara women's water polo team split their games for the second day in a row, beating Colorado State 10-5 and losing to No. 11 Loyola Marymount 8-4.

In the morning game against CSU, the Broncos were dominant on the offensive and defensive end. Amy Lamb, Meg Zimmerman, and Taylor Harkins all scored in double figures with two goals apiece. Emily Bonk, Kendra Betke, Kendall Hildebrand, and Brianna Anderson all had one goal. Bonk recorded three steals and an assist with her goal and Zimmerman drew three kickouts in the win.

Randahl Capurro played the whole game in the cage, blocking 11 shots. Claire Linney chipped in with two assists, two steals, and a kickout drawn while Christie Miller had three steals and an assist as well.

"The game was just a great defensive effort, we had a lot of steals," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We played great offensively as well, it was just a really good overall game."

In the second game against LMU, the Lions came out ready to avenge their loss to the Broncos earlier in the season, shooting out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. The Broncos won the remaining three quarters 4-3, but it wasn't enough to overcome the start of the game as they fell 8-4.

Lamb, Linney, Miller, and Harkins all had one goal for Santa Clara. Lamb had a steal and two kickouts drawn with her goal and Miller added two steals. Capurro had ten blocks in the game and also recorded a steal in the effort.

"LMU just came out with a little stronger than us," said Wilbur. "What we need to do is take the momentum of those last three quarters and build off of that."

The Broncos will travel back to Davis to play the Aggies next Saturday, April 12 at 12 p.m.
