Feb. 19, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Santa Clara women's water polo team returns to the pool, after enjoying a bye week, to host California Baptist on Friday, February 20, at 3 p.m. The following day, the Broncos, 4-6 overall, 2-3 WWPA, will travel to Stockton, Calif. to take on University of Pacific at 3 p.m. SCU will look to senior tri-captain Amy Lamb, to head the Bronco offensive attack this weekend. Lamb leads Santa Clara in both goals scored and assists, with 17 and 11, respectively.

"We are a little banged up from the Triton Tournament, but this past week off was very helpful for us to get healthy," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We are looking forward to getting back in the water and competing against some talented teams."

Last Time Out
The Broncos have not had a game since the Triton Tournament at UC San Diego, on February 8-9. Over the two day tournament, they went 1-4, posting a double overtime victory over Maryland, and falling to UC Irvine, CSU Bakersfield and Marist.

Santa Clara ended up playing the tournament shorthanded, without starting goalie Wren White, who went down with an injury. On Saturday, February 8, in the Broncos' second game of the day versus Maryland, White got hurt. Junior Kathryn Fraser stepped up and took over goalie duties for the end of regulation and the two overtime periods, in SCU's lone win on the weekend. The Santa Clara field player shared goalie duties with senior tri-captain Claire Linney on Sunday. Fraser tallied 14 blocks, five steals and one assist on the weekend.
