Santa Clara Hosts Rodeo Tournament Saturday

Feb. 25, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team will be hosting its first of two tournaments this season on Saturday, Feb. 27, taking on Cal Baptist and Pacific in the four-team, one-day Rodeo.

The Broncos will open the day with a 9 a.m. match against the Lancers, followed by a Pacific-Cal State Monterey Bay clash at 10:30 a.m.

Play will resume at 2:30 p.m. when the Otters play Cal Baptist and Santa Clara will close with a 4 p.m. match against Pacific.

This will be the second time the Broncos play the Lancers and the Tigers. Santa Clara beat Cal Baptist, 8-6, at the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational two weekends ago and fell to Pacific, 11-4, last weekend in Stockton.

Junior Taylor Harkins (21 goals) and senior Jenny Knutson (20 goals) continue to lead the Bronco offense. Senior Meg Zimmerman added her 14th goal of the season last weekend. In the cage, junior Wren White has 84 blocks in 12 games.

The Tigers are ranked No. 16 on the Collegiate Water Polo Association's poll and are 6-4 overall. Cal Baptist was previously ranked No. 16 but fell out of the poll after the Roadrunner Invitational and is 7-5. Cal State Monterey Bay has struggled to a 3-11 record, but defeated Cal State East Bay in Hayward on Feb. 7.
