Santa Clara Falls Twice At ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team fell twice on the final day of the Arizona State Invitational today, dropping 11-4 decisions to both the host No. 7 Sun Devils and No. 5 Hawai'i. Junior Taylor Harkins scored three goals on the final day to bring her tournament total to 11.

Through the first 16 minutes against Arizona State, the Broncos kept it close as the Sun Devils only held a 4-2 edge at the half. Arizona State then scored seven goals in the final two quarters, going on to the 11-4 win. Santa Clara received goalscoring from senior Jenny Knutson, freshman Alison Norris, Harkins, and junior Amand Miller. Junior goalie Wren White had eight blocks.

Against Hawai'i, Santa Clara scored once in the first but was held scoreless by the Rainbow Wahine in the second. Hawai'i expanded on their 4-1 halftime lead in the third, scoring five goals to the Broncos' one. Both teams scored two goals in the final quarter. Harkins scored twice, while Knutson and freshman Alexander Don had one goal each. White made four saves and reserve goalie freshman Stephanie Clements had two.

Santa Clara, now 12-11 on the year, returns to the Sullivan Aquatic Center April 10 for The Bronco Tournament.
