Top-Ranked Stanford Beats Women's Water Polo

STANFORD, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's water polo team faced its third nationally ranked team in as many days Sunday, this time falling on the road against the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, Stanford, as the Cardinal took a 23-2 non-conference decision at Avery Aquatics center.

Santa Clara (8-16) scored each of its goals in the first period. The Broncos got single goals from both Sydney Maccabe and Mila Erceg. Maccabe's goal at the 4 minutes, 5 seconds mark of the first period made it 4-1 Stanford (16-0) at the time. Erceg's score made it 6-2.

Georgia Lewis and Liyara Senadheera split time in goal for Santa Clara. Senadheera made nine saves and Lewis had six. 

The Cardinal got four goals from Jenna Flynn in the first period. Talie Wilmans scored three in the game and four other players had two goals each.
