Ryan Leake finished his second season coaching at Santa Clara University and his first as an assistant coach in 2013. 

Leake spent three seasons on current SCU Head Coach Dan O’Brien’s staff at UCSD. Working as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Leake was instrumental in the program’s historic three-year run that resulted in back-to-back Division II College World Series appearances (’09 &’10), the right to host its first-ever regional (’11), and an overall record of 137-38. All three seasons resulted in both regular season conference championships and conference tournament championships.

Under Leake’s guidance the UCSD pitching staff led the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in ERA, wins, and walks per 9 innings in both 2010 and 2011; while boasting the CCAA Pitcher of the Year in each season.  In two seasons the UCSD pitching staff produced six all-conference performers, five all-west region members, and two All-Americans in Matt Rossman and Tim Shibuya, as well as the 2011 NCAA Division II Academic All-American of the Year, Elias Tuma.

In 2011 Shibuya (23^rd round), along with right-handed pitcher Guido Knudson (28^th round), became UCSD’s first players to be taken in the MLB amateur draft since 2003.  

Prior to his stint at UCSD Leake worked as a construction assistant for his father (Chris), who designs and builds custom homes, and served as a pitching assistant at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA.  He then took a job as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota before returning to San Diego in 2009 to assist current Missouri coach, Matt Hobbs, with pitching and recruiting duties at UCSD.  In the summer of 2009 he also worked as the pitching coach for the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaskan Collegiate League.

Leake played collegiately at the University of Nevada Reno (where he was named Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year in 2003) and UCSD, where he earned his degree in Biology.  His career was highlighted by an all-conference season in 2005 and the program’s first-ever CCAA championship that same year.  Under Head Coach Dan O’Brien and assistant coach Mike Oseguera, Leake finished his three-year playing career as the program’s leader in saves and appearances.

In 2006 and 2007 Leake had intermittent playing stints overseas with the Tranas Cranes of the Swedish Elite Series.  As a starting pitcher and shortstop Leake was twice named a league all-star and led the Cranes to consecutive playoff appearances.  Tranas finished each season in the European Top 50.

Leake was a two-time All-State performer at Valley Center High School in San Diego and has one brother, Mikey, who was a standout soccer, football, basketball, and baseball player.  Ryan currently resides in San Jose.
