He also coaches third base, works with the team's catchers and assists in recruiting.

Entering the 2010-11 season Baum owns 11 years of Division I coaching experience. Prior to coming to the Mission Campus, Baum served as an assistant for current Fullerton head coach Dave Serrano at UC Irvine and now-University of Oregon head coach George Horton at Cal State Fullerton.

At UC Irvine he was the Anteaters' first-base coach, specializing in hitting instruction and tutoring the catchers. As a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater from 2001 to 2004, Baum helped the Titans to three College World Series appearances, including an NCAA National Championship in 2004.

As a player, Baum captained the 1998 and 1999 Titan squads, leading Cal State Fullerton to the College World Series his senior season. A catcher, his expertise behind the plate also helped him tutor Fullerton's 2004 First Team All-American Kurt Suzuki, who was a second-round MLB draft choice of the Oakland Athletics.
