SCU Hosts Bethune-Cookman Sunday as part of IBN Sports Las Vegas Invite
Santa Clara will play the first of four games on Sunday as part of the IBN Sports Las Vegas Invitationall, but the first two games are at the Leavey Center. The tournament field features Kansas, Arizona, Santa Clara, Ohio, Northern Colorado, Bethune-Cookman, Valparaiso and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Santa Clara, 2-1, hosts the first-ever meeting with Bethune-Cookman, 2-0, on Sun., Nov. 21 at 4 pm. Santa Clara is hosting two first round games in the Leavey Center. The second game is on Tues., Nov. 23 at 7 pm vs. Northern Colorado.
Santa Clara will then travel to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas to play the final two games: a 7 pm game vs. Arizona on Fri., Nov. 26 and a 4:30 pm game on Sat., Nov. 27 vs. Ohio. Ohio, a No. 14 seed in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, defeated No. 3 seed Georgetown 97-83 before falling to Elight Eight-bound Tennessee 83-68.
The Broncos are led by Kevin Foster, who is averaging 18.0 ppg and Marc Trasolini, who is averaging 13.3 ppg and 8.7 rpg. Evan Roquemore are averaging 8.7 ppg and 2.7 apg. B-C, averaging 81.5 ppg while its opponent scores 57.5 ppg, is led by five players in double figures: CJ Reed (18 ppg), Garrius Holloman (12.5 ppg), Javoris Bryant (12.5 ppg), Mikel Trapp (10.0 ppg) and Alexander Starling (10.0 ppg). Reed, the head coaches son, averages 6.0 apg and Holloman 11.0 rpg. Bethune-Cookman is a private historically-black university in Daytona Beach, Fla. and they play in the MEAC. The ninth-ranked football team improved to 10-0 for the first time in school history and set the stage for the Florida Classic vs. Florida A&M.

Santa Clara's 7 pm game vs. Arizona on Fri., Nov. 26 in Las Vegas will be shown live on Comcast SportsNet Plus. Check local listings. In addition, all games of the 10th annual IBN Sports Las Vegas Invitational later rounds, which are scheduled for Nov. 26th and 27th at the Orleans Arena, will be available to fans around the country. Free Webcasts!
Santa Clara has announced every non-televised 2010-11 men's and women's home basketball games, beginning with Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 21, will be webcast for free via Stretch Internet on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com.
With the help of the WCC, the Santa Clara University athletic department recently made several upgrades to its audio and video components in the Leavey Center and now has the ability to webcast games with a three-camera system. Radio feeds from the games will be integrated into the webcast when available.

Santa Clara has no players from the state of Florida. B-CU has one player from California: freshman point guard Dion Hudson hails from Ontario and attended Bishop Amat Memorial High School.
Last Time
Given that his two bigs were in street clothes, Bethune-Cookman head coach Clifford Reed would have been happy if his team stayed within six or seven rebounds of a bigger, more physical Stetson team on Nov. 16. B-CU edged Stetson 38-37 on the boards and outscored Stetson 78-66.
Garrius Holloman's double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds led five B-CU players in double figures as the Wildcats improved to 2-0 for the first time since 1999. With 6-9 Albert Abrahams still out with a hand injury and Alexander Starling suffering from a concussion, B-CU went with a line-up that maxed out at 6-6 against a Stetson squad coming off a huge win at ACC power Wake Forest and its interior of 6-8 and 6-10.
Stanley Elliott (6-10 from the field) also scored 13, while Mikel Trapp sank three from behind the arc and finished with 11 along with Javoris Bryant.
If by Two
Kevin Foster has a long way to go to reach Kurt Rambis' school record 1,736 points scored from 1976 to 1980. But, if he does collect the record, he can thank Southern California's big men for two points scored. The Trojans were whistled for a technical foul in pre-game warm-ups when a player dunked while the officials were out on the floor (against NCAA rules). Foster then shot and made two free throws prior to the start of the game.
After breaking Steve Nash's single season record for three-pointers made as a freshman in 2008-09 with 85, it's no surprise Foster is already climbing up the three point career lists as well. Foster also owns the record for three-pointers attempted as well with 232 shot his freshman season.
Foster has attempted 332 three-pointers and is tied with No. 9 Calvin Johnson's 332 attempts from 2005-09. Foster has made 117 career threes and is No. 10. Foster needs three to pass Brandon Rohe at No. 9 with 119 (2003-07).
The career record for three pointers made is Steve Nash's 263 from 1992-96. The career record for three-pointers attempted is 679 by Kyle Bailey from 2001-05. Foster will have a leg up on the competition, career-wise, as his six games last season will count towards his career totals as well.
How We Got Here
Taking its first lead of the night on a three by Kevin Foster on a self-proclaimed 'off night offensively' with 20 seconds left, Santa Clara held on to win 66-65 vs. Rice on Nov. 18
Individually Santa Clara was led by Robert Smith, the only Bronco in double-figures, with 10. Foster finished with nine. Niyi Harrison scored nine points off the bench; and Evan Roquemore, Ben Dowdell and Marc Trasolini scored eight each, with Trasolini collecting seven rebounds and three blocks. His three blocks tied him on the all-time career list with 93 blocks, tying Kurt Rambis at No. 5.
Santa Clara lost at Southern California on Nov. 15, 86-73. The Broncos led 50-47 before the Trojans went on a 14-2 run to put the game away late in the second half. Santa Clara was led by Kevin Foster's 26 points, including four three-pointers. Marc Trasolini added 15 points and nine rebounds. Troy Payne put nine points in the basket and Robert Smith scored eight and tied a career-high with eight rebounds. Foster added two steals and Evan Roquemore had two steals and four points.
Trasolini's fifth career double-double paced the Broncos in their season opener as Santa Clara defeated Cal State Bakersfield 82-77 at the Leavey Center on Nov. 12. Foster added 19 points in 31 minutes for the Broncos in his first game since Dec. 1st, 2009. Bronco head coach Kerry Keating is now 4-0 in season openers as a head coach.
Trasolini finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Roquemore had 14 points and four assists in 27 minutes in his first career collegiate game. Ben Dowdell finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
In spite of the Roadrunners out-shooting the Broncos from the field, the three point arc and the free throw line, percentage-wise, Santa Clara scored 82 points to defeat CSUB 82-77 on Nov. 12. Bronco head coach Kerry Keating is 10-1 in his career when his team scores 80+ points.
Blocks
Marc Trasolini collected a season-high three blocks vs. Rice and he has five this season. He is working to follow in the footsteps of career blocks leader John Bryant. It's conceivable he could go after Bryant's career record if Trasolini stays on an improving pace his junior and senior years. Bryant's career record is 246 over his four years.
The school record for blocks in a season was set by Bryant in 2009 when he collected 84 swats. Trasolini tied John Bryant's freshman record with 37 blocks in 2009 so has already topped his freshman total and he had one more block than Bryant as a sophomore (50 by Trasolini, 49 by Bryant). Trasolini's 93 career blocks tie him at No. 4 with Kurt Rambis who collected 93 blocks from 1976-80. No. 3 on the career blocks list is Jens Gordon (1985-89) with 133.
Additionally, Niyi Harrison had 21 blocks last season and finished the year at No. 5 on the all-time freshman list.
