Basketball Hosts UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday; Ranked in National Mid-Major Poll This Week

Santa Clara (14-9, 5-2 WCC) hosts UC Santa Cruz (9-11) on Tues., Feb. 1 at 7 pm.  It is the last non-conference game of the year for the Broncos.  After the UC Santa Cruz game, Santa Clara will be off until Sat., Feb. 7 when it travels to San Francisco for a rematch with the Dons at 7 pm on Comcast.  USF got the best of the Broncos in their Jan. 8, 2011 game in Santa Clara, winning 74-67.

Santa Clara is ranked No. 21 this week in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major National Poll this week.  It is a first for the Broncos under head coach Kerry Keating.  Saint Mary's is No. 2, Gonzaga is No. 11 and Portland is No. 12.  The CollegeInsider.Com Mid-Major Top 25 is now in its 12th season of existence.

Vs. the Slugs
Santa Clara is 1-0 vs. the Slugs lifetime.  The Broncos defeated UC Santa Cruz 93-70 on Nov. 25, 2002 in the two teams only match-up.

Lately
Santa Clara is coming off two straight weekend sweeps in WCC play. First, it defeated Gonzaga (Jan. 20, 85-71) and Portland (Jan. 22, 72-59) at home and then it won at Pepperdine (Jan. 27, 71-59) and at LMU (Jan 29, 79-72).

UC Santa Cruz has won four of its last six games, including a 74-69 game at Bethany on Jan. 27 and a 60-55 victory vs. Pacificia on Jan. 29.

In addition, Santa Clara will showcase each non-televised 2010-11 men's and women's home basketball game this season free of charge via Stretch Internet on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com.  With the help of the WCC, the Santa Clara University athletic department recently made several upgrades to its audio and video components in the Leavey Center and now has the ability to webcast games with a three-camera system.  Radio feeds from the games will be integrated into the webcast when available.
