  • Seven Men's Water Polo Student-Athletes Named to ACWPC All-Academic List

    Santa Clara Men's Water Polo saw seven student-athletes named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic List announced Thursday.

    Ranked No. 15 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) top 20 to begin its 2012 campaign, the Santa Clara University men’s water polo team went on to have four players honored by the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA).

  • Men's Water Polo Takes Down Whittier on Day Two of WWPA's

    Looking to bounce back on day two of the WWPA’s, No. 19 Santa Clara men’s water polo beat the eighth seeded host Whittier 10-8. The win puts the Broncos’ overall record at 10-19 and sets-up a match-up with Pomona-Pitzer on Sun., Nov. 18 at 10:45 a.m. for fifth place.

    In the opening round of the conference tournament, No. 18 Santa Clara men’s water polo fell to No. 16 UC Davis by a final of 6-5. The loss means Santa Clara will play host Whittier tomorrow at 9 a.m.
  • Three Broncos Honored by WWPA

    Preparing for its conference tournament, No. 18 Santa Clara men’s water polo had three players honored by the Western Water Polo Association on its all-conference teams. Junior driver Jimmy Moore received second-team honors, junior 2 meter Tucker Carlson was honorable mention and freshman utility James Rude was named to the all-freshman team.

    On the final day of the regular season, No. 18 Santa Clara men’s water polo fell to No. 16 UC Davis at the Sullivan Aquatic Center on Senior Day. Seniors C.J. D’Arienzo and John Nash were honored for their time on the Mission campus. The loss puts Santa Clara at 9-17 heading into the WWPA’s.

Rude has been playing water polo since he was 12 years old and has had a passion for it ever since.     Playing its second home game vs. a top-10 team in as many days, No. 19 Santa Clara men’s water polo lost to No. 3 Stanford 24-7. The game was an improvement over the first meeting of the two teams earlier in the year, a 19-1 loss at the NorCals on September 15, The loss moves the Broncos’ overall record to 9-16.

    As their tough season starts to come to a close, redshirt sophomore Casidhe McClone keeps his hopes high that the Broncos men’s water polo team can get a few more wins. The two-meter defender has also set some personal goals for himself in hopes of helping his team reach their goals. This has been a tough season for the Broncos, but McClone (CM) and the rest of the team keep the championship title of WWPA’s in their sight.

    Freshman James Rude has been having a great season here on the Mission campus for the men’s water polo team. The utility player has started every game for the team and has helped make key plays in the games. The Southern California native played topnotch water polo in high school, but he explains how different playing Division I college water polo is from playing Division I high school water polo.

    After a strong weekend at the Rodeo Tournament, No. 19 Santa Clara men’s water polo returned to the pool to take on No. 12 LMU in a matchup of WWPA opponents. Santa Clara lost the game by a final of 12-7. The Broncos are now 9-14 overall and 6-7 in WWPA action while the Lions move to 12-9 and 8-2 in conference.

    Coming off a weekend in which the No. 19 Santa Clara Men’s Water polo team hosted the Rodeo Tournament and collected two wins over in-state opponents Cal Baptist and Fresno Pacific, the Broncos will host No. 11 Loyola Marymount on Sat., Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur felt his team, which enters the contest on Saturday with a 9-13 record, 6-6 in WWPA action, improved over the course of last weekend.

    For the first time this year, the No. 19 Santa Clara men’s water polo team will play at home at the Sullivan Aquatic Center this weekend. The Broncos will host The Rodeo tournament, playing four games over the course of three days from Fri., Oct. 19 to Sun., Oct. 21. The Rodeo will feature 15 games in total and eight different teams, six of the eight ranking inside this week’s ACWPC Top-20 Poll.

  • Bronco Water Polo Heads to Colorado to Face Air Force

    For the first time in program history, the No. 18 Santa Clara men’s water polo team will travel to the state of Colorado for a regular season game. The Broncos will play No. 13 Air Force at 1 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 7th. Santa Clara, currently 7-9 overall, will look to improve on their 6-5 record in WWPA conference games. With a win, the Broncos would avenge a 9-7 loss at the NorCal Tournament three weeks ago. Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur sees this game as a bit of a measuring stick for his team.

    Opening the SoCal Tournament, No. 17 Santa Clara men's water polo lost two games to No. 2 UCLA and No. 10 LMU. The Bruins won by a final of 17-3 and the Lions took down the Broncos 16-9. Santa Clara is now 7-7 overall and 6-4 in WWPA play on the season.

    After adding three wins and two conference wins in Davis last weekend, the No. 17 Santa Clara Men’s Water Polo team will travel to Santa Barbara this weekend for the annual SoCal Tournament. All 16 teams in the field are featured in the latest ACWPC Rankings. Santa Clara will open with No. 2 UCLA on Sept. 29 at 8:00 a.m. at Santa Barbara. Following SCU’s first round game, the Broncos will matchup with either Pepperdine or Loyola Marymount depending on their result.

  • Water Polo Wins Two in First Day of Aggie Shootout

    In the first day of the 2012 Aggie Shootout, the No. 14 Santa Clara men's water polo won both games with a 12-4 victory over Claremont and a 9-7 win over Cal Lutheron. Santa Clara's record now sits at 6-4 with a 5-2 mark in WWPA play. On Sunday, the Broncos will take on La Verne before a rematch against Chapman University who Santa Clara came from behind to defeat 14-12 two weekends ago at the Inland Empire Tournament.
