Osborne Named CSTV All-American Midfielder

Dec. 30, 2003

NEW YORK CITY - Santa Clara University women's soccer team member Leslie Osborne was named to the inaugural CSTV women's soccer All-America team, which was announced Sunday night within the CSTV Primetime live studio show originating from the CSTV Fieldhouse in New York. Freshman goalkeeper Julie Ryder was honored on the second team. The CSTV All-America team was selected by the CSTV and CSTV.com editorial staff.

A junior from Menomonee Falls, Wis., Osborne was a leader for the Broncos this past season. She was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, marking the sixth time in the last seven years that the honor has been received by a Bronco. She was also named to All-WCC first team, becoming only the 10th player in the league to earn the honor three times.

A team captain, Osborne was one of three players that started all 24 contests. She played mostly at holding midfielder, but also saw time at forward, and netted11 goals and six assists for a team-leading 28 points this past season. She earned her first career hat trick against seventh-ranked Pepperdine. Against Portland, Osborne scored in the 24th minute, becoming only the second opponent to notch a first-half goal against the Pilots, while also marking the 100th point of her career.

Ryder, of DeKalb, Ill., is also a first-team All-West Coast Conference honoree, and with that recognition, became the first freshman goalkeeper to garner first-team honors since 1997. Ryder started 17 contests and ranked 12th in the country with a 0.574 goals-against average. She posted nine shut outs, including three in the NCAA Tournament, and boasts a 12-2-3 record, her only losses to second-ranked Notre Dame and NCAA Champion North Carolina. Ryder made 52 saves on the season and will be one of four goal keepers on the roster.
