  • Women's Soccer Finishes Successful Spring Season with 4-1 Win at Stanford

    Santa Clara women’s soccer wrapped-up its spring season with a commanding 4-1 win over Stanford on May 3. It is the third consecutive spring that the Broncos have taken down the Cardinal. Sofia Huerta scored two goals while Morgan Marlborough and Julie Johnston each added one goal apiece.

  • Women's Soccer Wraps Up Spring Season at Stanford on Friday

    Continuing its spring season, Santa Clara women’s soccer fell to the Bay Area Breeze 3-2 on April 20 and beat the Sacramento Storm for the second time during the spring by a final of 6-0 on April 28. The Broncos are 3-1 this spring with one game remaining.
  • Catching Up with Redshirt Junior Allie Vernon

    Allie Vernon (AV) is a rising redshirt senior from Homer Glen, Ill. Vernon won the West Coast Conference Freshman player of the year award her first year as a member of the women’s soccer team at SCU, but then was forced to redshirt as a sophomore due to an injury. After experiencing a severe back injury that almost prevented Vernon from ever playing soccer again, she talks about what motivated during recovery. She also talks about her best experience as a member of the women’s soccer team and the realistic and ultimate goal her team has of winning a national championship.

    Santa Clara women’s soccer moved its spring record to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over the Sacramento Storm on April 14. Brittany Ambrose scored her first goal as a Bronco and Sofia Huerta added a hat trick.
  • Women's Soccer Takes Down Cal 4-1 in Spring Opener

    Santa Clara women’s soccer won its first spring match of the season 4-1 over Cal on April 7. Dani Weatherholt, Aly Birgel, Sofia Huerta and Stephanie Sorg scored the four Bronco goals while Morgan Marlborough, Julie Vass, Alesha Blair and Brittany Ambrose all saw their first collegiate action.
  • Women's Soccer Set to Open Spring Season vs. Cal

    Coming off the 24th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, Santa Clara women’s soccer will open its spring season on Sun., April 7 at 7 p.m. vs. Cal at Buck Shaw. As of now, the Broncos are scheduled to play Cal, the California Storm of the Women’s Premier Soccer League, the Bay Area Breeze of the WPSL and Stanford. The Broncos are coming off of back-to-back undefeated spring seasons with a win over Stanford in each season.
  • Santa Clara's Julie Johnston Named to Glamour Magazine's Top-10 Collegiate Women

    Santa Clara junior forward Julie Johnston has been named one of Glamour Magazine’s Top-10 Collegiate Women. It is just one of many honors that have come to Johnston over the past year and a half. Johnston has also gotten her first cap with the Women’s National Team, won the U-20 World Cup as the captain of the U.S. squad and won the Bronze Ball.

    Coming off a great season and making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, freshman goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski is inspired to get even better next season. She started all 20 games she appeared in and had a season-high of 11 saves against BYU with 73 overall. Tostanoski also received a WCC All-Freshman Team selection. After completing winter training, Tostanoski is motivated for the team's five exhibition games in the coming spring.

    With one Bronco already making her National Team debut this year, Santa Clara women’s soccer had two players play a big role in the U-23 National Team’s recent win in the Four Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain. Julie Johnston and Morgan Marlborough both scored goals in the U.S.’s two-win showing at the tournament this week.

  • Three Women's Soccer Players Taken in NWSL Supplemental Draft

    Continuing to show that it produces top talent, Santa Clara women’s soccer had three players picked in the new National Women’s Soccer League Supplemental Draft on Feb. 7. The three players chosen were Bianca Henninger ’11 by FC Kansas City in the second round, Jordan Angeli ‘09 by the Washington Spirit in the third round and Marian Dalmy ‘06 by the Portland Thorns FC in the fourth round.

  • Julie Johnston Named to First Full National Team Camp

    Standout Santa Clara women’s soccer star Julie Johnston had a tremendous 2012 and things are getting even better in 2013. It was recently announced that Johnston has been named to her first full U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team training camp. She will join 17of the 18 players that were part of the Olympic Gold Medal winning team from London last summer.

She asked them three questions and got some really interesting feed-back! She spoke with All-Americans Erik Hurtado (men's soccer) and Julie Johnson (women's soccer). Larry Jackson, the WCC Goalkeeper of the Year also checked in. She also spoke to Megan Anders of the volleyball team who was named All-WCC First Team after leading her team to the school's 14th NCAA tournament. Finally, Lauren also caught up with Santa Clara's West Coast Conference Players of the Month Katie Le (women's tennis) and Kevin Foster (men's basketball).
  • Four Women's Soccer Players Earn All-West Region Nods

    Continuing to pick up accolades, Santa Clara women’s soccer had three players named to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women All-West Region teams. U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year Julie Johnston was named to the first team, Allie Vernon was named to the second team and Meleana Shim was named to the third team.
