Softball Travels to Stanford, Hosts First WCC Games vs. Saint Mary's

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Getting set for the first home West Coast Conference games in program history, Santa Clara softball travels to Stanford for a midweek game Tues., April 22 at 6 p.m. before returning home for a three-game series with rival Saint Mary's. The Broncos and Gales will play Sat., April 26 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and Sun., April 27 at 12 p.m. Last week Santa Clara lost a tight game to Cal before walking-off vs. Fresno State 1-0. The Broncos are 7-26 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Stephanie Fisher, fresh off being named WCC Player of the Week, is second in the WCC with a .379 (39-103) batting average and nine doubles. Fisher has added two home runs and two triples to go with two steals. She has scored 13 runs and driven in 15. Kelly Scribner is tied for second in the conference with six home runs while batting .290 (27-93) with a team-best eight walks to post a .350 on-base percentage. Scribner has scored 13 runs and knocked in 14 while adding eight doubles. Geenamarie Bonilla leads Santa Clara with 23 RBI while hitting .259 (22-85). Bonilla has hit one triple and five doubles while scoring eight runs.

Ciara Gonzales leads Santa Clara with four wins and a 3.39 ERA. Gonzales has pitched in 27 games and made 14 starts with seven complete games and two shutouts. She has tossed 105.1 innings and leads the team with 29 strikeouts. Jessica Turner is second on the team with 53.2 innings pitched and 25 strikeouts. She has appeared in 18 games and made nine starts with three complete games.

Stanford enters the week at 26-18 and 12-5 at home. Last week the Cardinal dropped the first two games of a three-game set at Utah before bouncing back with a 12-11 win on April 19.

Leah White leads the Cardinal in hitting at .371 (52-140) and has a .453 OBP. White has hit one home run, one triple, and eight doubles to go with 34 runs scored and 33 RBI. Kylie Sorenson is also batting .371 (46-124) with a team-best 16 doubles. Sorenson has added four home runs and two triples to go with 30 runs scored and a team-high 38 RBI. Erin Ashby is tied for the team-lead with six home runs and has driven in 33 runs while scoring 28. Ashby has added two triples and six doubles.

Madi Schreyer has pitched in 36 games and made 29 starts with 17 complete games and three shutouts. In 185.2 innings Schreyer has fanned 141 against 96 walks and picked up one save with a record of 18-10. Sorenson is the only other pitcher with more than 20.0 innings pitched and has thrown 44.0 with a 7.16 ERA.

Saint Mary's is 19-22 on the season with a 5-4 mark in conference play. Last week the Gaels split a two-game set with Fresno State and dropped two of three to Pacific at home.

Andrea Hazel is third in the WCC in hits with 41 while batting .342 (41-120). Hazel leads the Gaels in home runs (6) and RBI (23) while scoring 16 runs to go with one triple and seven doubles. Cassidy Szeredy is hitting .287 (33-115) with two home runs and eight doubles. She has scored eight runs and knocked in 11. Erica Musgrave is batting .277 (31-112) with 16 runs scored and 10 RBI. Musgrave has hit one home run and two doubles.

Sarah Lira is 7-7 with a team-best 2.21 ERA in 104.1 innings. Lira has appeared in 24 games and made 11 starts with three complete games and one shutout. Lira has struck out 24 and picked up a save. Lujane Mussadi leads the Gaels in wins with an 11-11 record and innings pitched with 134.2. She also leads the team with 51 strikeouts. Mussadi has pitched in 30 games, making 20 starts and tossing seven complete games and two shutouts.
