Softball Beaten by LMU in Series Finale

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In the finale of a three-game series, Santa Clara softball lost to LMU 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the SCU Softball Stadium.

Both teams put runners on in the early innings but couldn't bring anyone around to score. Through four innings, the Lions left seven runners on base while the Broncos left five.

LMU (16-26, 2-4 WCC) finally broke through with three in the fifth and added four more in the seventh. In the fifth, Alex Finie brought in the first two runs with a triple to right center and then came in to score on an RBI ground out by Aria Pogni.

Amanda Dirks led the Lions with three hits and a run scored. Caitlin Harman added two hits, a walk, and a run scored and Brooke Christensen had an RBI and a run scored to go with a walk and two singles.

Rachael Farrington (7-12) went 5-plus innings to get the win. She allowed seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. Andy Wellins pitched the final two innings for her second save of the year.

Santa Clara (11-28, 3-3, WCC) had its best chance to score in the bottom of the second when back-to-back base hits put runners on the corners with no outs. After two outs, the Broncos loaded the bases but couldn't come through with the big hit.

Taylor Burns and Kimberly Goulart both finished with two hits for Santa Clara who collected seven hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch but stranded eight.

Aubree Kim (3-10) started and got the loss in 4-plus innings. She allowed one run on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
