Softball Swept by LMU Saturday

LOS ANGELES – Santa Clara softball was swept on Saturday at LMU by scores of 4-3 and 4-0 by the league's first place team.

Game 1
After both teams had overcome deficits and the game was tied, Brooke Christensen blasted what would be the game-winning home run with one out in the bottom of the sixth to put LMU (23-21-1, 6-1) on top 4-3.

Alicia Brown also added an RBI for the Lions and Andrea Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with four different players each scoring a run.

Ashleigh Bandimere entered the day with a conference-low 1.89 ERA but Santa Clara (6-31, 1-6) jumped on her for two runs in the first after a pair of two out RBI singles by Hannah Russell and Kelsie Barnard.

Both Ellie Fisher and Russell collected two hits for the Broncos with Fisher scoring a run and Russell scoring a run and driving one in.

Bandimere (17-10) tossed a complete game to get the win. She allowed three runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

In her fifth straight start, Aubree Kim (3-15) went the distance but got the loss. She allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

A three-spot in the bottom of the third game LMU a 3-2 lead but Santa Clara answered right back with a run in the top of the fourth to tie it when Samantha Johnson-Needham singled to left.

Game 2
Linnay Wilson was brilliant in the second game of the day, tossing a one-hitter to lift LMU (24-21-1, 7-1) to the sweep.

Wilson (7-7) fanned nine in the complete game victory without walking a batter.

The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and added another run in the second before scoring two in the sixth for some insurance.

Brown led the way with a home run and two RBIs while Sabrina Tebou also blasted a solo home run and Maddison Flores was 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, and an RBI.

Kim (3-16) against pitched well but took the loss. She allowed four runs on six hits with a strikeout.

Russell had the only Santa Clara (6-32, 1-7) hit, a leadoff single in the fifth.
