Six Broncos Receive WCC Beach Volleyball All-Academic Honors

OFFICIAL WCC RELEASE

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Whether playing on the hardwood or the sand, Santa Clara volleyball continues to top the West Coast Conference in all-academic selections. Six Broncos have received WCC Beach Volleyball All-Academic recognition; Kirsten Mead and Danielle Rottman were named to the All-Academic Team while Jensen Cunningham, Madison Dutra, Mary Shepherd and Sarah Vaccaro received Honorable Mention recognition.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.

Mead and Rottman were also honored as All-Academic Team selections for the indoor season. Between the fall and spring, the Broncos topped the West Coast Conference with 12 honorees. They matched San Francisco with a WCC-best six selections this spring.

Mead, a sophomore economics major with a 3.91 GPA, played at the No. 1 position all season, posting a 9-7 record in duals and 21-22 record in sets. She paired up with Sabrina Clayton to finish with a spotless 3-0 dual mark against pairings from ranked opponents. Mead was also a First Team All-WCC selection.

Rottman, a senior communication major with a 3.51 GPA, excelled alongside Nikki Hess at the No. 2 position this year. They posted the best dual record (12-4) and set record (28-9) of any Bronco pairing in the team's four-year history. Rottman and Hess won four of their first five duals.

Vaccaro (3.40 GPA, Liberal Studies) began the year with a 7-1 dual record at the No. 3 position. Cunningham (3.33, Psychology) went 7-5 in duals and 18-15 in sets at the No. 4 post. Dutra (3.66, Finance) and Shepherd (3.55, Communication) notched a 9-6 dual mark and 21-14 set record — both second-best on the team — at the No. 5 pairing.
