SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team fell to West Coast Conference rival Loyola Marymount 5-2 this evening at the SCU Tennis Center. The Broncos fall to 5-6 on the season, 2-1 in league play. The Lions improve to 2-6, 1-1.

LMU grabbed the first point of the afternoon with two victories in doubles competition. Santa Clara avoided the sweep with a 9-7 win on the first doubles court, as Christine Limbers and Janalle Kaloi paired to defeat Lions Edit Pakay and Diana Vinis. The Bronco duo remains undefeated in WCC play with a 3-0 record.

The Lions took a 3-0 lead with singles victories on the third and sixth courts, and then clinched the match on the first court, when Pakay topped Limbers 7-6, 6-4.

Santa Clara avoided the sweep with Kaloi's victory on court two. After splitting the first two sets, Kaloi topped Georgina Dinham 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker for the point.

Pati Ruiz also recorded a point for SCU when her opponent retired in the third set due to injury.

The Broncos remain at home and host another conference match on Friday. Santa Clara will take on Portland starting at 2 p.m. The Broncos will close out the home season on Sunday against 12th-ranked North Carolina. First serve is set for noon. Prior to the match, the team will honor its four seniors, who will be playing in their last home game on the Mission Campus: Ashley Campbell, Mariko Kawakami, Christine Limbers and Pati Ruiz.
