Santa Clara's track teams competed at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. on Sat., April 25 and came away with another school records. In addition, for the first time in school history, four Broncos ran under 18 minutes for the first time in a single race.
Santa Clara head coach Tom Service and assistant coach Felipe Montoro were very pleased with all the personal bests.
"We will rest next weekend before closing out the season at the Occidental Invitational in Los Angeles on May 9th," said assistant coach Felipe Montoro.
Kazimir Brown ran an outstanding11.91 wind-aided 100m to win her prelim heat, but because the win was +4.7 it won't be counted as a school record. She followed it up with a 12.19 in the 100m finals to finish in fourth place in the college section, breaking her own school record.
In the 800m, Robbie Reid ran 1:54.29, a personal best and new school record for a runner-up finish in heat two. He followed up in the 1500m finishing second in his heat, running a 3:56.89, running a 59.3 last 400. Richard Zhu ran a 1:56.13, a personal best.
Running the 5000m, four Broncos finished under 18 minutes for the first time in school history in a single race. Stephanie Wilson was fourth in a very good 17:14.01, Whitney Porter was sixth in a personal best of 17:17.11 and Noelle Lopez was eighth in a personal best of 17:17.91. Nicole Giove ran a personal best of 17:59.79 for 22nd.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Stephen Koch ran a solid 9:40.55 and Nhu-nguyen Le ran a personal best of 9:49.03.
In the women's 800m, Jenny Light ran 2:21.56 to win heat three.
Evan Hennessey ran a 15:22.62 for 21st and a new personal best in the 5000m.
