Santa Clara Sets School Records at Sac State

Redshirt freshman Erin McCarthy broke her second school record in her last two races at Sac State on May 8.

McCarthy who erased the 1500 mark at Cal two weeks ago now tops the 800 list running 2:14.86 to win her very competitive heat.

Junior Robbie Reid made a valiant attempt at the 3:50 mark in the 1500m, running his second-best time ever at 3:51.96 and finishing as the runner-up in a very fast race.

Freshman Guadalupe Gonzalez continued his outstanding season with another PR, hitting 3:59.95 in the same heat.

The day actually started on a very positive note for the Broncos in the men's 5000m race. Kevin Oliver, a shy long distance specialist from Oregon, unleashed his patented kick over the last 1000m to move from about 15th place to finish fifth with a PR of 15:08.43.

Freshman Marcos Hinojosa, (Bellarmine, San Jose) also PRed in the race, crossing the finish line at 15:42.70.

The men's 3000m Steeplechase produced Santa Clara's only victory of the day. Senior Stephen Koch bolted away from the field with about 250 meters left and charged home with the win and a new lifetime best of 9:28.93. His textbook clearance of the last barrier was another "highlight".

Gutsy senior Alex Harkins ran a seasonal best 9:34.81. Freshman Matt Mosier ran his second-best time in the 800m, finishing at 1:58.27.
