Cross Country's Reid and Wilson run record times at Stanford XC Invite

Sept. 26, 2009

On an extremely hot day in Palo Alto where temperatures soared over 90 degrees, Santa Clara's Robbie Reid and Stephanie Wilson shattered the Bronco school records as both finished 10th overall at the Stanford Invitational. Wilson is a graduate of Archbishop Mitty and Reid graduated from Mountain View High School.

The Bronco men's team came in 11th and the women's team, in a larger field, finished 13th. Stanford won both races.

"This is a step in the right direction for the Bronco men and women," said Bronco head coach Tom Service. "Those are excellent times. Considering it is Sept. 26, we are very excited about the results at Stanford. We are excited to get the next couple weeks of training done and get onto our next race."

Reid, a junior from Mountain View, ran 24:30 - the fastest time ever by a Bronco in an 8K.

Reid was followed by Chris Sampson, who finished at 25:33 to cross the line second for the Broncos. Marcos Hinojosa followed up in third place for SCU at 26:00, Guadalupe Gonzalez finished in 26:12 to finish fourth and Kevin Oliver ran a time of 26:23 to round out the scoring for SCU in fifth place.

Wilson's time of 20:57 was a school record and a personal best for at the 6K distance. Wilson was followed by freshman Mary Reynolds, competing in her first race, crossing the line at 22:58. Finishing third for SCU was Carey Parker at 23:02, Melissa Conlin was fourth at 23:28 and Nicole Giove rounded out Santa Clara's scoring at 23:30.

Santa Clara runs at the Doc Adams Invitational in Davis, Calif. next Sat., Oct. 3.
