Men's Rowing Sweeps Duals with Sacramento State

FOLSOM, Calif. — Santa Clara men's rowing swept all six races in a rivalry matchup with Sacramento State at Lake Natoma Sunday. The competition provided an opportunity for the entire rowing team to race across the six different events as the Broncos and Hornets competed for the Bob Whitford Cup.

The Broncos won the six duals by an average of 36.2 seconds and the Varsity 8 crew posted an event-low time of 6:04.40.

"We trained really hard right up to the day of the duel and the guys performed well," head coach Jay Farwell said. "All of the guys were able to race this weekend in the various events so it was great to see everyone perform in a racing environment. We were also pleased with the performances of our coxswains who did a really good job managing the course and getting the guys to perform at a high level."

Santa Clara faces UC Santa Barbara and UCLA this Saturday at Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara, Calif. UC Santa Barbara is coached by a former Bronco in Des Stahl '91.

"This is going to be a great test for us and will give us an indication as to how competitive our group will be this year," Farwell said. "I can't say enough about the job that Des has done at UCSB and I look forward to having our squad line up against a nationally-competitive UCSB crew. UCLA is also a very good crew and continues to get faster so we are approaching this weekend with a lot of focus and spirit."
