The Santa Clara Broncos aim to win their third straight dual match this weekend after two wins on Jan. 20. The Broncos host the No. 25 ranked Boise State Broncos on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 11:00 a.m. PT at the Degheri Tennis Center. Boise State is the highest ranked opponent to come to Santa Clara since the No. 25 Tulsa Golden Hurricaine visited the Broncos on March 25, 2006.
Last Week
Santa Clara played two dual matches on Jan. 20 at the Degheri Tennis Center, facing UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. The Broncos claimed a 4-1 victory over Santa Cruz in the morning match. Brian Brogan, Jay Wong and Bobby Rasmussen all won singles matches against the Banana Slugs and Santa Clara captured the doubles point. The doubles teams of Rasmussen/Jan Macek and Kevin McQuaid/Blane Shields won their matches to clinch the point. In the afternoon match, SCU defeated the UC Davis Aggies 4-0 behind two more singles wins from Brogan and Wong, along with Jan Macek's victory at No. 1 singles. The Broncos again won the doubles point with the teams of Macek/Rasmussen and Robert Gallman/Brogan winning their matches. SCU has now won 11 straight matches against both UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis.

Rasmussen Perfect
Senior Bobby Rasmussen has gotten off to a fantastic start to the spring season, winning four singles matches and five doubles matches without a loss in one tournament and two dual matches. Rasmussen won three singles matches at the Aztec Invitational, while teaming with Jan Macek to win three doubles matches. In the first dual match of the year against UC Santa Cruz, Rasmussen clinched the doubles point with Macek, earning a 9-8 (8) win against Alexander Villalobos and Max Liberty-Point. The Greenwood Village, Colo. resident then clinched the match with a straight sets win at No. 5 singles. He and Macek also won their doubles match against Michael Chin and Justin Garcia 8-6.
No. 2 and No. 3 Hot at Start
The Broncos dominated at No. 2 and No. 3 singles last weekend. No. 2 player Brian Brogan won two straight-set matches, while No. 3 singles Jay Wong also won both his matches against Santa Cruz and Davis in straight sets. Wong dropped only three games over the two matches. Brogan and Wong were the only Broncos to win both their singles matches on opening day. Jay Wong now leads the Broncos with 14 wins overall this year.

History vs. Boise State
Santa Clara has played Boise State at home twice in the past five years. SCU captured the match in 2002 by a 4-3 score, while Boise State won the 2004 dual 4-3. The only current Santa Clara player to participate in that 2004 dual is Kevin McQuaid, who lost a three-set match at No. 6 singles. Boise State was ranked No. 33 at that time.
Scouting Boise State
Boise State has yet to play a dual match in 2007. However, the Broncos will play the Stanford Cardinal on the road on Saturday, Jan. 27 prior to playing the Santa Clara Broncos on Sunday, Jan. 28. Two Boise State singles players, brothers Luke and Clancy Shields, are ranked in the top-100 in the ITA national rankings. Luke is No. 15, while Clancy is No. 94. At No. 25, Boise State is one of the highest ranked teams ever to visit the Degheri Tennis Center. Harvard, which traveled to Santa Clara in 2000 at No. 24, is the highest ranked team to ever face the Broncos in Santa Clara.
Road Trip Looming
The Santa Clara men's tennis team faces an extended string of matches away from home following Sunday's dual against Boise State. SCU plays five straight duals away from home from Jan. 30-Feb. 10. The trip includes matches against No. 10 Pepperdine, No. 19 California, No. 57 Arizona State and No. 48 Arizona, along with UC Irvine. Following that road trip, the Broncos play 13 of their final 17 duals at home prior to the WCC Championships.
Ranked Foes
After facing No. 25 Boise State this weekend, the Broncos play nine more opponents currently ranked in the top-75 in the ITA rankings. SCU plays California (19), Pepperdine (10), Arizona State (57), Arizona (48), Hawai'i (68), UC Santa Barbara (70), Stanford (9), Brigham Young (73) and Harvard (75). Four of those nine matches will be played at the Degheri Tennis Center.
