SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the first time since the middle portion of last season, the Santa Clara men's tennis team is back in the national rankings, coming in at No. 72 in the latest poll.

Playing against five ranked opponents during their first eight matches of the season, the Broncos have opened 2016 with a 4-4 record, including an upset victory over No. 66 Fresno State University last month. Santa Clara's three other victories have come in the form of 7-0 sweeps against local foes from Sonoma State University, Holy Names University and the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Santa Clara's four defeats have come against squads ranked in the top 60 in the country. Despite suffering the losses, Santa Clara pulled out three points against the Boise State University Broncos and sent three singles matches against Stanford to a third and deciding set before that match was finished. Looking to get back on track after falling in their last two contests, the Broncos return to action this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. when they host the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
