Full WCC Release

SANTA CLARA, Calif.
Robert Seby, Ashot Khacharyan and Connor Garnett were awarded with conference honors on Wednesday after their success-filled 2015-16 campaigns.

Seby took home the WCC Freshman of the Year award and was named to the singles honorable mention team. Khacharyan was named to the All-WCC Second Team Singles list. Seby and Garnett received an honorable mention nod in doubles.

"I am extremely proud that these gentlemen were recognized by the WCC for their play this season," said Head Coach Derek Mills. "They are all deserving and battled through the ups and downs of this season with tremendous poise and resilience."

Seby is the first Bronco to take home the Freshman of the Year award since Ilya Ostinsev was recognized in 2012. The Santa Clara freshman finished the season at 12-11 in singles while spending all of his time competing at the top three positions, playing against high quality competition from around the country. The Oro Valley, Ariz. native had two-match clinching victories to his name and also earned WCC Player of the Week honors in March after sweeping his way through the Mountain Pacific Invitational. He was also 11-7 in doubles action.

"This is just the beginning for Robert," said Mills. "He challenged a number of great opponents this season and held his own."

For the third year in a row, Khacharyan takes home hardware after performing at a high level in singles action. The Sochi, Russia native solidified his name in the record books after finishing ninth all-time on Santa Clara's singles wins list with 61 victories. This season, the senior tallied a 12-8 mark, sported a number of brief winning streaks throughout the campaign and also earned a WCC Player of the Week award in April.

"Ashot was our go to No. 1 guy this year and he stood up the task as he has all four years," said Mills. "We are sad to see him go but very proud of the work he put in to help our program."

Santa Clara's No. 1 doubles team of Seby and Garnett finished the year with a team-high nine victories and capped off their season with a 6-2 victory over the No. 81 ranked duo from the University of San Diego.

"Robert and Connor were the most consistent doubles pairing we had this season and were never afraid to play against anyone," said Mills. "They always played with high energy and focus, which certainly helped our team take home a number of doubles points."
