SAN DIEGO - For the second-straight day at the West Coast Conference Tournament, the third-seeded Santa Clara men's tennis team looked to take down an opponent that beat them in the regular season but the Broncos were unsuccessful this time around, falling to second-seed Pepperdine 4-0 in the semifinal round.
The two squads last faced on Saturday, where the No. 37-ranked Waves won 4-1 at Santa Clara.
Unlike the last meeting, Pepperdine (17-8) took the doubles point with Eero Vasa and Maxi Homberg making quick work over Christian Lerby and Jack Pulliam 6-1 on court two followed by Linus Halldin and Pietro Fellin's win over Santiago Hinojosa and Mann Shah 6-3 on court three.
In singles action, the Broncos (16-10) won the first set in three of the six matches with but in the matches where the Waves took the first sets they won in straight sets to complete the sweep.
Homberg won on court five and No. 122-ranked Tim Zeitvogel won the top flight to give the Waves a 3-0 advantage before Robert Shelton closed out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jack Pulliam on court six.
Guillaume Dalmasso split the first two sets with No. 64 Daniel De Jonge as did Arthur Neuhaus with Eero Vasa. Manna Shah was leading in the second set 4-2 after winning the first but each of their matches went unfinished.
