BERKELEY, Calif. -

The No. 16 Santa Clara men's water polo team fell 13-9 today to No. 2 California at the Spieker Aquatics Complex. Senior Jack Wall scored three goals in the Bronco effort, but came up short for the second time this season against the Golden Bears.

Cal scored eight straight goals in the first half to take the lead before Liam Farrell could get Santa Clara on the board with 1:18 left in the first half.

The Broncos made a comeback in the third period, outscoring Cal, 5-4, paced by senior Wall's three goals, including a last second shot to end the third quarter. Santa Clara also scored the first three goals of the fourth period to get within three goals of the Bears, but Cal's Spencer Warden gave the Bears' their 13th goal of the match with 1:08 left in the contest for the final 13-9 margin.

The Broncos, now 13-7 overall, will host their second tournament of the season at the Sullivan Aquatics Center next Saturday and Sunday.
