Women's Rowing Still Struggling with Injuries After WIRAs

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's rowing continued to struggle due to injuries at the WIRA championships over the weekend.

The Novice 4 and Varsity Pair made the third level and petite finals respectively, but those races were canceled due to high winds. The Varsity 8, with a new lineup, was the only boat to compete on Sunday.

"The lack of experience in the Varsity 8 crew showed all they way down the course," Santa Clara head coach John Wojtkiewicz said. "We've seen much faster performances from that lineup but they weren't ready to go against seasoned first Varsity 8's this time around and were quickly overwhelmed. We'll continue to try and prepare them for the WCCs and see if we can close the gap further. There have been some injuries and mitigating factors on this team since February, I have to give everyone credit for their tenacity and commitment."

The Broncos are back on the water May 14 at the WCC championship on Lake Natoma in Sacramento.
