SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team started off strong in the first round of the Bay Area Classic, but second round scores proved to be a problem for the Broncos. SCU finished ninth out of 14 with a two-day total of 675.

Meggie Fagundes led the Broncos with scores of 85 and 81 to finish in a tie for 23rd. Courtney Dimpel Composti also improved upon her first round score of 85, firing an 84 to put her in 36th. Next in line was Samantha Trask and Candice Palmer who tied for 37th.

Palmer posted the lowest mark of the tournament for the Broncos earning a 79 in round one. Trask also came out strong posted an impressive first round score of 80, but both girls slipped in the standings in round two posting higher scores then the previous day. Closely following them was Paige Wilson who rounded off the standings for SCU placing 68th.

Washington proved unstoppable with first and second round marks of 312 and 317. With four Huskies placing in the top ten, including an impressive second place finish by Amber Prange, no one could make up for their commanding lead. UW certainly made their presence known as they finished 15 strokes ahead of the competition.

New Mexico State claimed second place with scores of 320 and 324, respectively, placing them 14 strokes ahead of the third place finisher San Francisco.

Up next for the Broncos is the Oregon Duck Invitational. This two-day contest will be held on March 8-9 in Eugene, Oregon.
