Women's Golf Completes First Day of Kent Youel Invitational

OAHU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara University women's golf team fired consecutive rounds of 319 on day one of the Kent Youel Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii at the Kapolei Golf Course. The Broncos are in 16th place after the first two rounds and will play the final round of the tournament Wednesday morning.

Courtney Dimpel-Composti led the Broncos with her rounds of 76 and 79 that place her in a tie for 31st place at 11-over par. Candice Palmer is just two strokes behind her teammate after rounds of 83 and 74 placed her in a tie for 40th.

Meggie Fagundes carded scores of 79 and 83 for a first day totla of 18-over par, 162, which places her in a tie for 62nd. Samantha Trask is in a tie for 73rd after rounds of 81 and 83 while Jessica Lamberty rounded out the Broncos' scores with a first round 85 and a second round 86. Lamberty is in 86th place.

Oklahoma leads the tournament with a team total of 20-over par, 596, six shots ahead of Washington and eight shots better than Texas A&M. San Francisco is the only other West Coast Conference school in the competition and they are in 13th place after rounds of 322 and 304 give them a 12-shot advantage over the Broncos.

Paige MacKenzie of Washington leads the individual race wtih a first day total of 1-under par, 143. She is followed closely by Lisa Meldrum of Oklahoma and Lehua Wise of New Mexico State are are each at 2-over par, 146, with only Wednesday's final round to go.

Following Wednesday's final 18, the Broncos will not play in another tournament until the Spring portion of their season. They return to the links on February 17-18 at the annual Bay Area Classic hosted by California in Vallejo, Calif.
