Women's Golf Adds Arizona Standout to Program

May 3, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team announced the signing of 5-7 right-hander Jennifer Sun of Scottsdale, Ariz., to a national letter of intent, head coach Polly Schulze announced Monday, during the late signing period that began April 14.

Sun is the second of two players expected to join the Bronco program in the fall. Last week, Santa Clara announced the addition of 5-6 right-hander Jenny Nelson of Pleasanton.

Sun was a team captain of the Chaparral High School squad that won two state championships and three consecutive region crowns. She was named team MVP as a junior and senior after placing third individually at the state championships those years. Sun's amateur play includes a win at the JGAA Desert Mashie Spring Championship, and top-five finishes at the Phoenix Women's City and Tucson City Championships.

"Jennifer will fit well with our team, as she is a genuine person full of enthusiasm to move this program forward," Schulze said. "She is very strong academically and has dedicated this summer to a few tournaments to make sure she joins the program in the fall just as strong athletically."

The Broncos recently completed the 2004 season, placing third at the West Coast Conference Championship. Schulze was named the league's Coach of the Year after leading her squad into the top three of the league standings for the first time in five years, as well as guiding SCU past another program milestone, breaking 300 for a team round. The Broncos accomplished that feat twice in the final two weeks of the season, with the new mark set in the second round of WCCs (296).
