Brust Ties For Ninth As Broncos Have Best Finish Of Season At The Beach Invitational

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Freshman Audrey Brust (75-78-77--230) was able to secure her second finish within the top 10 this week as she was the only Bronco to have all three rounds in the 70s, getting a birdie on her card each day and tying for ninth place. As a team, the Broncos improved their cumulative scores after each round to place in solo fifth place in the 15-team field with a 71-over 313-312-310--935, their highest finish of the fall and spring season so far after placing 6th twice.

Fellow underclassman Borina Sutikto (82-80-75--237) came in hot today having just four bogeys and one birdie in the Final Round to earn her a T31 finish. Also finishing in a tie for 31st was Lauren Shew (79-76-82--237) who contributed her First and Second Round scores to the team total. Fellow Junior Inara Sharma (77-82-79--238) had a T40 finish beginning strong in the first round highlighted with a hole-in-one on the third hole and contributed her Final Round score to the Broncos as well. Coming off a T2 finish in her tournament prior, The Valley Invitational, Claire Choi (84-78-79--241) struggled in the First Round but got it back to scores under 80 later in the tournament to finish in solo 51st.

Santa Clara was able to differentiate themselves this week by playing well on the Par 3s as they were fourth in scoring average at 3.22. The Broncos also had the fifth most number pars on their cards with 149 total. 21st-ranked UCLA brought home the team title much thanks to a stellar Final Round for the team as they finished with a 47-over 309-305-297--911. Zulaikah Nasser of Sam Houston was the individual medalist and only player to have a round under par in the tournament as she went 6-over 77-71-74--222. The Broncos will complete their spring academic quarter before returning to competition in Maui in late March.
