Sutikto In Top-20 As Broncos Wrap Up Day One Of Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

by Gavin Hall, Santa Clara Athletics Media Relations Student Assistant

MARICOPA, Ariz. - Santa Clara women's golf was able to get a full two rounds in today with Borina Sutikto and Inara Sharma leading the charge as the first day of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic came to an end.

Sutikto had the low round of the day as she opened with a 1-under 71 which included birdies on Nos. 2, 6, 8, 9, and 13. She would then follow her sub-par round with a 5-over 77 which puts her in a tie for 17th at the moment. Sharma's lowest round of the day came in Round 2 which was only a shot back of Sutikto's best as she put up an even-par 72 which brung her up 61 spots after a first round of 9-over 81. Sitting in a tie for 55th and three shots back of Sharma is Claire Choi who went 77-79 and in the second round suffered a triple bogey on the par-3 11th but had 14 pars otherwise.

Lauren Shew came out with a solid 5-over 77 which included just five bogeys which she then followed up with a 9-over 79 to put her in T77th; her first birdie of the tournament still eludes her. Opening with a 6-over 78 which included a stretch of three straight birdies on Nos. 8, 9, and 10 was Audrey Brust who then shot a 14-over 86 in the second round to put her in solo 96th.

Sacramento State leads the team title race at 3-over after the first day while UNLV's Nicole Lorup leads the individual race at 3-under par. The Broncos climbed three spots up in the ranks after completion of the second round and are now in 12th place out of 20 teams and will seek to climb even higher with a shotgun start at 7:30 am PST tomorrow.
