SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball is back on the road with a trip to the Capital Classic, co-hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State. Friday the Broncos will play UConn at 9 a.m. and Davis at 2 p.m. Saturday they play UConn at 9 a.m. and Sunday take on Utah State at 9 a.m. and Sacramento State at 2 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Broncos fell at San Jose State in their first midweek game.

Santa Clara (7-8) has a .292 team batting average and a .367 on-base percentage. The Broncos have scored 73 runs, 4.9 per game.

Sammy Needham leads the team in average (.455), OBP (.500), and slugging (.545). She has four doubles to go with 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Ashley Trierweiler is hitting .405 with 14 runs scored and six RBIs while hitting four doubles. Emma Bickford has a .367 batting average and leads the team with 16 RBIs and seven doubles while scoring 11 times. Eleni Spirakis has scored a team best 15 runs to go with a double, a triple, and a home run.

Hannah Edwards has appeared in seven games in the circle and made four starts with two complete games and a shutout. She leads the team with 34 1/3 innings pitched. Lauren Anderson has started five times with a complete game, tossing 19 2/3 innings.
