SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped their lone game Saturday to UConn 8-0 at the Capital Classic.

The Huskies (10-3) got on the board early with a two spot in the first and added another in the third and one more in the fifth. They would score four times in the seventh to blow things open.

Devon Casazza picked up a pair of hits including a double and knocked in two with a run scored. Kiwi McDaniel also had two hits and an RBI and Briana Marcelino scored two runs.

Meghan O'Neil (4-1) shutout down the Broncos (7-11) offense, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out two.

Six different Broncos had hits with Sammy Needham adding a double and Eleni Spirakis also drawing a walk.

Hannah Edwards (3-4) went 6 2/3 innings while taking the loss. She allowed eight runs but just two were earned on 11 hits with four walks.

NEXT UP
The Broncos play finish the Capital Classic tomorrow with a game at 9 a.m. against Utah State and one at 2 p.m. against Sacramento State.
