Softball Swept by UC Davis in Doubleheader

DAVIS, Calif. – Santa Clara softball was swept in a doubleheader at UC Davis Sunday by scores of 10-2 in 5 innings and 10-5.

GAME 1
The first game of the day was all Aggies (6-9). The Broncos (2-5) scored one in the top of the first, but Davis came back with four in the bottom of the frame and kept the offense going with two in the third, one in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to close things out.

Anna Dethlefson was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored to lead the offensive charge. Isabella Leon had two doubles and scored three runs with Sommer Kisling adding a pair of hits and two RBIs as well. Sarah Starks and Leah Polson also added two RBIs a piece.

Taylor Fitzgerald (2-4) was strong in the circle, picking up the win. She allowed two runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Santa Clara added its second run in the fifth when Emma Bickford tripled to right center, bringing home Ashley Trierweiler.

Kenzie Yamakoshi had an RBI double in the first to give the Broncos their brief 1-0 lead.

Liyah Lopez (0-1) started and took the loss in 1 1/3 innings. She allowed four runs on five hits.

GAME 2
The Broncos took a lead in the second and held it until the bottom of the sixth when the Aggies offense exploded four six runs.

The first seven batters in the inning reached safely with back-to-back doubles by Leon and Mmegan Bower and a two-run home run by Starks doing most of the damage.

Starks went 2-for-4 in the game with two home runs and three RBIs with Polson adding three hits, including a homer, and scoring two runs. Leon and Dethlefson both had two-hit games as well.

Kenedi Brown (3-4) went the distance for Davis to collect the win. She allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits with four walks and six punchouts.

Santa Clara's offense had a solid day, scoring three in the second and adding single runs in the third and fourth.

Trierweiler was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Yamakoshi added a double and two runs scored. Kat Sanchez also had an RBI and a run scored.

Regan Dias (1-4) took the loss in 5 innings of work, allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

UP NEXT
The Broncos return home and face Cal Wednesday at 4 p.m.
