Softball Drops Weekend Finale to LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped the rubber match of its three-game West Coast Conference opening series to LMU 9-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (14-17, 2-1 WCC) bats got going immediately with three runs in the first on two-run triple from Allisha Martinez who came in on a fielder's choice one batter later.

They got to Broncos (4-12, 1-2 WCC) starter Lauren Anderson again in the third with a two-run home run off the bat of Desiree Moreno to stretch the lead to 5-0.

LMU would go on to add two runs each in the fifth and seventh.

Moreno finished the day with three hits and added a double with two runs scored. Megan Dedrick was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored, and three RBIs and Martinez added two hits and scored twice.

Marina Vitalich (8-7) started for the second time during the series and shutdown Santa Clara again. She went the distance while allowing just one hit and four walks with two strikeouts.

Kenzie Yamakoshi picked up the lone Santa Clara hit, a single in the second.

Anderson (1-4) lasted 3 innings, allowing five runs on four hits with three walks.

UP NEXT
The Broncos remain home and welcome Pacific for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
