Playing at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club at Utah State on Monday before Santa Clara's league-opener on the road vs. BYU on Tuesday, No. 72 Santa Clara fell 4-3 to Utah State on Monday. The women move to 7-5 and are 1-0 in league play this year with their 6-1 win over USF on March 2. Utah State moves to 7-7.
The Broncos won the doubles point with Kelly Lamble and Kacie Wagner winning 8-5 at No. 2. doubles. Stephanie Skaras and Brittany Warly won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Santa Clara went on to drop four singles matches. Winners for the Broncos included No. 1 Katie Le (6-4, 6-2) and No. 5 Stephanie Skaras (6-4, 6-2). Lamble's match with McKenzie Davis lasted more than three hours and finished with Davis winning the third set 16-14 in the tiebreaker.
Santa Clara is slated to open West Coast Conference play with an 11 am match at the WCC's newest member, BYU, on Tuesday.
