STOCKTON, Calif. - Santa Clara's volleyball team swept 11th-ranked Pacific tonight at the Spanos Center.
With the 15-13, 17-15, 15-12 victory, the Broncos ended Pacific's 15-match home win streak and defeated the Tigers for the first time in 25 meetings, dating back to 1975.
Santa Clara is also off to a 3-0 start for only the fifth time in the program's history. The Broncos last accomplished the feat in 1993, but will attempt to go 4-0 this weekend for the first time in 17 years (1983).
Four Bronco attackers reached double figures, led by Brook Terhune and Annika Dell with 14 kills apiece. Amy Kohl added 12 while Ynez posted 11. Setter Roz Pelayo posted a career-high 21 digs on the night.
The Broncos will travel to Tucson, Ariz. to participate in the Wildcat Classic, held at the McKale Center. Santa Clara opens against No. 19 Baylor on Fri., Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. and will also play New Mexico State later that afternoon. On Saturday, the Broncos will play host Arizona, ranked 14th, at 2 p.m.
