SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco volleyball announces the third member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Laura Willems. She currently attends Legend High School in Parker, Colo.
"I chose Santa Clara because I believe it to be the greatest college in America," Willems said. "The people there are examples of what I hope to be. They were friendly and nice, and laid-back while also being academically driven and motivated. I am extremely lucky to be given this opportunity, because in my mind, Santa Clara is the perfect school for me."
The 6-foot prospect has earned conference honors three times, including First Team All-Conference accolades as a junior in 2014 for the Titans and head coach Katie Winsor. LHS reached the playoffs during each of Willems' three seasons there, including a pair of state tournament appearances. She did not play in 2015 due to injury.
"Laura is a middle blocker with an explosive arm and she has a great spirit for the game," Bronco head coach Jon Wallace said.
Willems is a four-time qualifier with the Colorado juniors and was a double-qualifier in 2014.
The soon-to-be Bronco enjoys reading, writing, baking, skiing, drawing, painting and photography.
Tomorrow's future Bronco is Callie Jones.
