SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
The Santa Clara University women's water polo team has reported to preseason training camp, in preparation for its 2013 schedule, which begins the weekend of January 26-27 at UC Santa Barbara's Invitational.

The Broncos initiated its practice schedule on Monday, Jan. 7. The team will practice six days a week, in addition to weight training on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, until their first game later this month. The Broncos will officially open their home schedule at the Sullivan Aquatic Center against No. 15 Hawaii on Friday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m.

"I feel like we are off to a good start, and a lot of that has to do with the players coming in ready and prepared," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "I feel that everyone is up-to-speed, much more than we may have been last year (at this time). The freshmen have come in and learned the offense quickly and are making a nice adjustment to college water polo."

Wilbur also credits the returning players for making the first week of practice go well. The team has named senior's Alison Norris (pictured), Makena Pezzuto and Stephanie Clements as captains. The Broncos have seven seniors on the 2013 roster.

"This group of seniors, the captains, and the upperclassmen as a whole have really focused on building the team chemistry," says Wilbur. "In the fall they did some things like organizing a trip up to Tahoe for the weekend and had a few team dinner events. I can see this group is real tight-knit and close, even earlier in the season than usual."
