Broncos In Fresno For Cal-Nevada Championships Starting Friday, March 30

March 29, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara track team departed for Fresno, Calif. Thursday afternoon to take part in the Cal-Nevada Championships, hosted by Fresno State University. On Friday and Saturday, 27 teams from California and Nevada will meet as they continue in search of NCAA regional qualification.

The Broncos have been on a tear the last few weeks, setting new records - both personal and school records - at every meet. Junior Mike Delaurenti has two wins so far in 2007, both at 3000 meters, one a steeplechase in which he broke his own previous school record. This past week at the Hornet Invitational, junior Adriane Puetz and freshman Annie Murphy Hagan came just hundredths away from breaking Shannon Bell's school-record time of 10:27.12 in the 3000 meters.

The schedule for the Cal-Nevada Championships consists of prelims on Friday and finals on Saturday, with the exception of the 5000 meters and the 3000 meter steeplechase, which will not have prelims, and whose finals will be held on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

In other track and field action, Santa Clara will also be sending one representative to the 33rd annual Stanford Invitational, which will also be held Friday and Saturday.
