Broncos Head To Seattle For Sundodger Invitational

Sept. 13, 2007

Santa Clara, Calif. -- The Santa Clara cross country team continues their season Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash. After a fantastic showing at the USF Invitational two weeks ago in which both teams won the race and boasted the fastest individuals, the team is excited to get back into action. There is no question that the competition at Sundodger will be tougher, but the team welcomes the challenge.

"It's definitely a step up in competition," said head Coach Tom Service. "But whether we defeat these teams, we really don't have a lot of control over how they run. But if we compete with them and run to the best of our abilities then we'll know we're doing a good job."

The women's team will once again be led by senior Adriane Puetz, who won the USF Invitational. Annie Murphy-Hagan, the top returning runner from last year, will see her first action in competition as well. This race, however, will be a 6k instead of the 5k the women ran at the USF Invitational. Service isn't concerned. "It's really not that much longer. I tell my team they just have to look at it as a long 5k as opposed to a 6k."

On the men's side, Michael Delaurenti won the USF Invitational and looks to be at the front of the pack again.

The Broncos have a large group of runners who placed at the top of the USF Invitational, and this race again looks to be a solid group effort.

The Sundodger Invitational is Saturday, September 15 at Lincoln Park in Seattle, Wash. The women kick off at 10:25 a.m. and the men start at 11:00 a.m.
