Baseball to Play Alumni January 18

Jan. 6, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball team will begin the 2003 season with its annual alumni baseball game. Second-year head coach Mark O'Brien will guide the current Broncos against many former Broncos on Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m. in Buck Shaw Stadium.

Saturday's festivities will begin with a home run derby at 11:20 a.m. followed by the game at "The Shaw" which begins at 1 p.m. Following the game there will be an alumni barbeque in Alumni Park located on Stanton Field, which is adjacent to the stadium.

"The alumni weekend is one that our entire program looks forward to each year," said O'Brien. "The camraderie that is built at Santa Clara is very evident at this game and I want our guys to see that. I want them to see that they are participating in something that lasts longer than just their stint in a Bronco uniform."

The alumni game will be the first test for the Broncos who are playing one of their toughest schedules in recent history. Santa Clara will open its 2003 season at home against No. 3 Stanford on Saturday afternoon, January 25, at 1 p.m. in Buck Shaw Stadium. For a complete look at the 2003 schedule please click here.
