Baseball's Herbst Gets Dream-Come-True Text
June 20, 2012The Santa Clara baseball team ended with an impressive record this past season, finishing with the most wins since 2008. As the season closed and many seniors ended their baseball careers and prepared for graduation, senior Lucas Herbst (LH) received the text of a life-time declaring the continuation of his passion – baseball! Herbst was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 26th round. Herbst sat down with SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) and answered a few questions regarding his experience with the Broncos and what will come afterwards. -
Bronco Baseball Finishes Successful Start to New Era
June 08, 2012Transitioning into a new era that has the campus buzzing, the Santa Clara baseball team wrapped-up its first season under head coach Dan O'Brien on May 27 vs. LMU. The Broncos finished 2012 26-28, the most wins for the program since 2008. -

Bronco Baseball Has Three Recognized by WCC
May 30, 2012After finishing the season with 26 wins, the most since a 33-win season in 2008, Santa Clara baseball had three players honored by the West Coast Conference, as announced by the league on Wednesday. INF/OF Greg Harisis and OF Pat Stover were named First-Team All-WCC while OF Lucas Herbst was honorable mention. -
Broncos Fall to LMU on Senior Day
May 27, 2012Wrapping-up the first year under head coach Dan O'Brien and his staff with senior day at Schott Stadium, Santa Clara baseball lost its final game of 2012 vs. LMU by a final score of 4-2. The loss gives the Broncos a final record of 26-28 with a 5-19 record in WCC play while LMU finishes at .500 with a 27-27 record and 13-10 mark in conference. -

Baseball Has Three Honored by WCC for Work in the Classroom
May 25, 2012Getting ready to finish up a successful first season under head coach Dan O'Brien and his staff, Santa Clara baseball had three players named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team, the conference announced Friday. Senior Paul Twining, junior Brock Simon and sophomore Zach Looney were all honored for the first time. -

May 25, 2012In the first game of the last series of the season, Santa Clara baseball fell to LMU by a final of 6-3. The Broncos fall a season-high two games below .500 at 25-27 on the season and 4-18 in WCC play while LMU moves to 26-26 overall and 13-9 in conference. -
Bronco Baseball at the Next Level: Daniel Nava '06 Thriving for Red Sox After Call-Up
May 23, 2012Outfielder Daniel Nava ’06 is off to a torrid start for the Boston Red Sox after being summoned from Triple-A Pawtucket. Since his May 10 call-up, the Redwood City native has been a fixture in the starting lineup, and is batting a whopping .350 with 9 R, 11 RBI and two homeruns in 14 games. He also has four doubles, 10 BB, a .491 on-base percentage, a .600 slugging percentage and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 1.091. With seven outfielders currently on the disabled list, Nava has provided much needed stability and production in his first MLB action since 2010. -

Santa Clara Offense Explodes for 14 Runs in Win at BYU

Santa Clara Falls to BYU Behind Ninth Inning Grand Slam
May 17, 2012In its first-ever trip to Provo, Santa Clara baseball fell to BYU by a final of 8-6. The Cougars used a four-run bottom of the ninth to erase a two-run deficit and come out on top. The loss moves Santa Clara to 24-24 overall and 3-16 in the WCC while BYU is now 20-24 overall and 8-11 in conference play. -
Bronco Baseball Set for First-Ever Trip to BYU
May 14, 2012Looking to bounce back after a tough weekend in San Francisco, Santa Clara baseball will travel to Pacific for a game Tue., May 15 at 6 p.m. before heading to Utah to take on the newest member of the WCC, BYU from May 17-19. It will be the Broncos first-ever visit to Provo. -

May 11, 2012Coming off of a walk-off win vs. San Francisco Sate, Santa Clara baseball was unable to keep the momentum going as it fell to San Francisco 8-2. Checking-In with Greg Harisis
April 30, 2012SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With only a month of games left to play, the Santa Clara baseball season is on the home stretch of the 2012 baseball season. SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) was able to catch up with sophomore shortstop, Greg Harisis (GH), to talk about his experience as a student-athlete and how he plans to help the Broncos finish the season. Harisis has started 17 games while making 26 appearances overall and leads the team with a .412 (28-68) batting average. He has scored 18 runs to go with seven RBI and four doubles. This past weekend, Harisis blasted his first career home run on April 28 vs. Saint Mary’s over the right field wall at Schott Stadium. He has a terrific .467 on-base percentage that is helped by his six walks. -
Santa Clara's Bats Come to Life In 9-4 Rout of Saint Mary's
April 29, 2012In its last home game for over three weeks, Santa Clara baseball picked up a 9-4 win vs. Saint Mary's in the series-finale. The Broncos are now 20-20 overall and 3-12 in conference games while the Gaels are 21-20 and 5-10 in the WCC. The Broncos hit two four-baggers to total five homeruns this weekend. -

April 27, 2012On a good night for offense, Santa Clara baseball lost to Saint Mary's by a final of 11-6. Santa Clara knocked around RHP Martin Agosta of Saint Mary's, a projected first-round pick in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in June, tagging him for six runs on nine hits, including three home runs but the Gaels' offense was too much. The loss moves the Broncos to 19-19 overall and 2-11 in WCC play. Saint Mary's is now 20-19 overall with a 4-9 mark in conference play. -
Talking with SCU's Baseball Operations Assistant Kellen Lee
April 24, 2012As the Bronco baseball operations assistant for SCU Kellen Lee has his plate full, especially with the transition from player to administrator. Lee previously played catcher for the now SCU Baseball Coach Dan O’Brien at UC San Diego, where Lee graduated with a double major in Communications and Psychology in 2011. Lee finished his career with a .996 fielding percentage and now is looking towards an administrative baseball career here at SCU.
