  • Broncos Set Commissioner's Honor Roll Record for Second Straight Year
    July 23, 2014
    The West Coast Conference announced its 13th annual Commissioner's Honor Roll Tuesday, and 141 Santa Clara Broncos were recognized with honors for their athletic success and academic excellence. Santa Clara had 18 student-athletes receive gold honors (3.75-4.00 GPA) and 33 student-athletes receive silver honors (3.50-3.74 GPA). The Broncos set a new record of student athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, breaking the previous mark of 133 in the 2012-13 school year.
  • Consistency Down Homestretch in 2014 Leads Broncos to First WCC Winning Record under Dan O’Brien

    In its third season under head coach Dan O’Brien, Santa Clara baseball took a major step forward with a top-four finish in West Coast Conference regular season play and an appearance in the WCC Baseball Championship. The team, defined by toughness and resilience, won seven of its nine WCC series for a total of 16 conference wins — the most for the program since 2004.

    Santa Clara University Athletics hosted the first annual SCU Celebrity Golf Tournament – with more than 25 sports celebrities — benefitting the Bronco Bench Foundation and the Bronco women's soccer program on Mon., June 23 at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park. Sports celebrities included former Super Bowl Champion players, a World Series Champion Manager, a Super Bowl referee, a Heisman Trophy Winner, World Cup Champions, Olympic Gold Medalists, MLB All-Stars, the current head coaches of the MLS Earthquakes and NHL Sharks -- the list goes on and on! In his first day as an EYEBRONCO reporter, men's basketball senior Yannick Atanga caught up with a number of the celebrities to talk World Cup soccer!
  • Four Bronco Baseball Players Receive WCC All-Academic Honors

    The West Coast Conference announced its 2014 Baseball All-Academic team on Friday, and four Santa Clara Broncos have been recognized as part of the honors. Seniors Zach Looney, Casey Munoz, and D.J. Zapata made the WCC Baseball All-Academic Team and senior Mac Hess was named an All-Academic Honorable Mention.

  • Baseball’s Season Comes to an End with 8-6 Loss to Gonzaga

    The Santa Clara Broncos lost 8-6 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs Friday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark, and have been eliminated from the 2014 West Coast Conference Baseball Championship. In the fifth head-to-head meeting of the season between the Broncos and Bulldogs, Santa Clara held three separate leads in the first five innings and Gonzaga took its first and only lead of the game on the strength of a four-run sixth.

"The idea is for you to get yourself ready to have a championship practice. It's easy to say and really hard to do. For us, a championship practice is every ground ball you take is with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, every swing you take on the field is with the bases loaded down by two, every fly ball has that same intensity to it.   • Broncos Fall to Pepperdine 5-2 in First Game of WCC Baseball Championship

    The Santa Clara Broncos jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Pepperdine in Thursday’s West Coast Conference Baseball Championship opener, and the Waves responded with five runs in their last five innings to win 5-2. The Broncos face elimination Friday at 12:00 p.m. against the loser of Thursday night’s game between the No. 2 seed LMU Lions and No. 3 seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs.

    The West Coast Conference announced its 2014 Baseball All-Conference teams and individual awards Tuesday, and six Santa Clara Broncos have been recognized as part of the honors. Sophomores Reece Karalus and Jose Vizcaino, Jr. were named First Team All-Conference and Stevie Berman was named to the All-Freshman Team. Berman also received an Honorable Mention alongside seniors Casey Munoz and Quinton Perry, as well as sophomore Jacob Steffens.

    On Senior Day in a must-win game, Santa Clara baseball topped Saint Mary's by a final of 7-6 to qualify for the West Coast Conference Baseball Championship. Junior first baseman T.J. Braff hit a two-out, RBI single in the ninth to score senior center fielder Greg Harisis as the Broncos won in walkoff fashion to finish the regular season with five straight WCC series victories.

    The Santa Clara Broncos overcame an early three-run deficit with seven unanswered runs Saturday afternoon at Schott Stadium to defeat the Saint Mary's Gaels 10-6. Santa Clara's one through six hitters each picked up an RBI and a run scored and freshman Jason Seever threw a career-best 6.0 innings in relief as the Broncos evened the series at one game apiece.
